0:01 Good morning, Traverse City. This is Mike, and I hope you have your coffee or other drink of choice in hand. And I guess we'll, start this out by looking at the weather. Today in Traverse City, it's 24 currently, but it looks like it's may get up to 30. You know, we kind of got these big lakes around us, which keeps us a little warmer than the surrounding territory over in Wisconsin. It was like, in single digits, So be, thankful for the lakes here. We're supposed to have a little bit of lake effect snow along the lakeshore, Lake Michigan lakeshore. We've got kind of a strange wind, which will, keep the snow in tight along the lakeshore. But, here in Traverse City, we shouldn't get too much.

0:50 At least that's what they say, whoever they are. And I'm looking at the snow totals for the season. I thought I'd bring that up, for this first official episode of cup of Traverse City. In Traverse City so far this year, we've got 12.5 inches and normal for this date is 5.7. So we are 219% above normal snowfall. Although it doesn't seem too bad yet. I don't know. So, what else is going on around Traverse City? You know, along Bay Street in Traverse City, there was a big church, former Traverse Bay United Methodist Church on what's on Ramsdell Street off of Bay Street, but it's right there along the Grandview Parkway, a little inland from the beach.

1:50 And they're planning a housing development. Surprise, surprise. They're building houses everywhere around here, but, it's a 2.3 acre site and they're, what was it? What were they gonna do? 18 unit condo building and 18 town homes. Yeah. I guess we need it around here. But, again, they're building apartment buildings everywhere. But, anyway, the Traverse City Planning Commissioners will discuss the project at their 6PM meeting tomorrow at the government center. And, yeah, should be interesting to see what they come up with. It is a good spot. You know, it's gonna be, you know, expensive. It's it's not gonna be one of those cheap places to live because it's gonna be right close to the beach, right close to downtown, nice views over the bay, depending on how they build the building.

2:45 So might be might be alright. I I don't know. And another story I saw in the ticker was, some of the distilleries around here are, you know, facing some rising costs and, you know, not as much be not as many people drink anymore. I know that sounds strange, but, you know, the the newest generations, I I I lose track of what everybody's called these days. Last time I paid any attention, millennials were the thing, but, no. There's more. But, anyway, you know, the 18 to well, 21 to, you know, 30 year olds don't drink as much as, you know, we did when we were kids. We meaning us Gen Xers.

3:34 Again, your your mileage may vary, but, according to the Michigan Craft Distillers Association, in 2016, Michigan had 36 distilleries, and by 2020, more than doubled and generates more than a billion dollars for Michigan's economy. But, yeah, some of the ones around here, they seem to be doing okay. You know, there's it's, Traverse City Whiskey Company is the one I'm familiar with. And, yeah, they have a really good bourbon margarita if you're into that stuff. I I don't like the cherry whiskey, but I'm not a cherry lover anyway. Being from the cherry capital of the world, that seems a little strange, but I like, you know, I like cherry pie whatever, but not a not a huge fan. You know, cherry flavored anything just is, yeah, tastes like cough syrup.

4:36 I guess that's what cough syrup and other medicines were with cherry flavored back in the day. So, you know, maybe that's why I don't particularly care for it. Like I said, I don't hate cherries. I like cherries, but not, not cherry flavored. Anyway, that's our five minutes. Please like, subscribe, do all the stuff.
