0:01 Good morning, Northern Michigan. This is Cup of Traverse City for the 12/11/2025. And as we normally do, we're gonna start with the weather. Of course, today, 50% chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy with a high near 29. Northwest wind, five to 10 miles an hour. Tonight, a 30% chance of snow showers mainly before 1AM. Mostly cloudy with a low around nineteen. West wind around five miles per hour becoming south after midnight. That might mean a little warm up.

0:41 I don't know. And, of course, Friday, a 40% chance of snow showers mainly after 1PM. Mostly cloudy with a high near 30. So, yeah, a little warmer. Southwest winds five to 10 miles per hour. And, you know, I was looking at the radar this morning, and there is a band of of, lake effect snow that stretches basically from Northport all the way down to Ross Common. So it's just a little north and east of where I'm at in Traverse City. I don't know where you're at, but, yeah, it looks like it, could dump some snow.

1:22 But, so far today, you know, I plowed yesterday, and, nothing's nothing's accumulated since. So that's a good thing. I'm gonna do a little more plowing today, but, just to clean things up. Well, enough about me. Let's see. I wanna look at the snowfall. I like watching these, snowfall numbers for the season. According to this, Traverse City had 2.7 inches of snow over the last twenty four hours. It's probably about right. The other you know, yesterday morning, it was, you know, probably four inches here, but, officially, 2.7.

2:07 We've had a whole, 22.8 inches of snow. Normal for this day, of the season is 12.4 for the season, and we're a 184% over what we normally get. I was just looking at West Branch. I know that's a little out of the Northern Michigan area, but West Branch, has had 18 inches of snow and normal is 7.8. So they're 232% over or 232% of their seasonal snowfall so far, and their normal down there is 53 inches, which I could I could deal with a 53 inch, snowfall.

2:57 I I tell you though, it's a lot better than last year. I remember last year, it did not stop snowing from Thanksgiving all the way to the February. It was you know, there was a couple days in there, but for the most part, every day, we had measurable snow and, you you know that kind of what I remember from, the seventies and eighties. But, you know, I don't know. We're obsessed with weather around here this time of year, and, of course, we'll have some some other things to talk about, when the weather's not crazy or normal. I guess it's normal. At first, I was like, I'm already tired of it, and, now I'm kinda getting into it and getting used to it. So I don't I don't mind. I'd rather be here in the snow than someplace busy.

3:51 So anyhoo, and I almost said my keyword there, but I'm not going to. Traverse City Light and Power is thinking about building a campus up on Cedar Run Road. They had a field up there. It's about what did it say here? 50 acres of land along Cedar Run Road kinda on the side hill there, as you're going up. And what they use that for back in the day is when they had that coal fired plant, right down on the Bay Shore. They would, dump the ash on that field. That's what that field was.

4:31 And, now, you know, since they don't have the coal fired plant anymore, that field is really greened up and solided up and, you know, looks pretty cool. And the TC light and power board and by the way, TC light and power is owned by the city of Traverse City. It's I don't know if that's unique, but it's a municipal, entity. And they also do Internet, by the way, if you're in the lucky areas to get their fiber Internet, right here where I'm at. I'm just outside of their area, but they say they're gonna expand here. Kinda look forward to that. But, anyway, they they wanna build a $40,000,000 campus, out there on Cedar Run Road, which will be interesting because, you know, they'll they'll do some, you know, a sustainable power there, and they're gonna do, like, a little natural area.

5:26 It sounds pretty ambitious. I don't know if they're actually gonna do it, but, that's what they're thinking about. And we were going a little long today. That's alright. But, yeah, it'd be nice for them to put that land to use. They were either gonna do that or sell it. It'd be a great spot for, for some some rich person's house or, you know, a housing development of some sort. But, you know, right now it's just an open field where they dumped coal ash for many, many, many years. So and with that, we'll call this a day. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
