Happy Tax day!

More flood related news this morning.

TCAPS Closed...

From The Grand Traverse Sheriff's office:

Heads up for your morning commute! Things got even uglier last night. The bridge at Beitner Park failed. Beitner Road is no longer passable. The Grand Traverse County Road Commission has put barricades up at Chums Corners and at Keystone and River Rd.

Additionally, things didn't get any better for S. Airport Rd last night. It will remain closed at Park Rd and Cass Rd.

Another reminder of the two major construction projects that just recently started in Interlochen and 31N/3 Mile. Please please slow down and be patient.

Weather:

Today

A slight chance of showers before 11am, then a chance of showers after 2pm. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight

A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday

A 50 percent chance of showers. Patchy fog before 1pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon.

1
00:00:01,280 --> 00:00:03,919
Good morning, Northern Michigan. This is your cup

2
00:00:03,919 --> 00:00:09,220
of Traverse City for the 04/15/2026.

3
00:00:09,519 --> 00:00:12,799
And, it's tax day. And amongst other things,

4
00:00:12,799 --> 00:00:14,559
we just wanna talk more about what's going

5
00:00:14,559 --> 00:00:15,539
on in the weather.

6
00:00:16,934 --> 00:00:17,434
It's,

7
00:00:17,894 --> 00:00:20,695
crazy. We've had, like, six inches of rain

8
00:00:20,695 --> 00:00:21,595
over the last

9
00:00:22,695 --> 00:00:23,515
three days.

10
00:00:23,815 --> 00:00:24,295
And,

11
00:00:25,015 --> 00:00:27,654
the last I heard, the sheriff's department announced

12
00:00:27,654 --> 00:00:31,035
that the Beitner Road bridge has failed.

13
00:00:31,550 --> 00:00:33,390
I don't know what they mean by failed,

14
00:00:33,390 --> 00:00:33,890
but

15
00:00:34,509 --> 00:00:37,710
the upshot is Beitner Road is closed from

16
00:00:37,710 --> 00:00:39,969
Chum's Corners down to,

17
00:00:42,829 --> 00:00:45,229
oh, what is it? River Road there at

18
00:00:45,229 --> 00:00:45,890
the roundabout.

19
00:00:46,465 --> 00:00:49,825
That whole section is closed to through traffic

20
00:00:49,825 --> 00:00:51,924
and the bridge is out, so that's

21
00:00:52,304 --> 00:00:53,125
kinda crazy.

22
00:00:53,585 --> 00:00:57,344
Also, South Airport Road at, Logan's Landing is

23
00:00:57,344 --> 00:00:58,804
continued to be closed,

24
00:00:59,649 --> 00:01:02,149
due to flooding over the over the bridges

25
00:01:02,210 --> 00:01:02,710
there.

26
00:01:04,129 --> 00:01:07,250
Not not cool. And I guess there's lots

27
00:01:07,250 --> 00:01:09,409
of other flooding all over the place. The,

28
00:01:09,650 --> 00:01:13,109
Traverse City area public schools are closed today.

29
00:01:13,465 --> 00:01:15,944
First time I can ever remember that they

30
00:01:15,944 --> 00:01:17,724
were closed due to flooding.

31
00:01:18,424 --> 00:01:21,704
And, actually, the county had requested that they

32
00:01:21,704 --> 00:01:23,484
close today because of

33
00:01:24,185 --> 00:01:25,084
all the bridges

34
00:01:25,709 --> 00:01:26,450
and construction

35
00:01:26,829 --> 00:01:29,230
and everything else. You know, the interlock and

36
00:01:29,230 --> 00:01:31,790
construction is in full force and of course

37
00:01:31,790 --> 00:01:33,409
the three mile road closure

38
00:01:34,109 --> 00:01:35,650
is in full force so

39
00:01:36,349 --> 00:01:39,489
that limits a lot of, traffic. So

40
00:01:39,935 --> 00:01:41,855
just be aware if you're out and about,

41
00:01:41,855 --> 00:01:42,594
the traffic

42
00:01:42,895 --> 00:01:44,435
might be a little squirrely,

43
00:01:44,975 --> 00:01:46,594
and watch out for sinkholes.

44
00:01:47,135 --> 00:01:49,375
I've seen some pictures online of,

45
00:01:50,015 --> 00:01:52,275
giant sinkholes here and there.

46
00:01:53,790 --> 00:01:56,049
And a little further out, the Pellston Airport,

47
00:01:56,590 --> 00:01:59,090
was closed completely, I think, yesterday.

48
00:01:59,950 --> 00:02:01,950
I think they might have one runway going

49
00:02:01,950 --> 00:02:02,450
now,

50
00:02:02,989 --> 00:02:03,310
but,

51
00:02:03,790 --> 00:02:05,944
one of their runways were flooded. I don't

52
00:02:05,944 --> 00:02:08,185
know if it was damaged, but, it was

53
00:02:08,185 --> 00:02:11,384
definitely had, lots of standing water on it.

54
00:02:11,384 --> 00:02:11,884
So,

55
00:02:12,585 --> 00:02:13,085
man,

56
00:02:13,705 --> 00:02:15,944
yeah, like I said, it's weird, weird weather.

57
00:02:15,944 --> 00:02:17,625
Well, that's what happens when you have this

58
00:02:17,625 --> 00:02:18,125
huge

59
00:02:18,590 --> 00:02:20,750
blizzard and, you know, three feet of snow,

60
00:02:20,750 --> 00:02:22,590
and then that all melts real quick, and

61
00:02:22,590 --> 00:02:24,050
then you get a bunch of rain.

62
00:02:24,830 --> 00:02:26,669
And I guess it's, our turn in the

63
00:02:26,669 --> 00:02:29,090
barrel here, but I don't ever remember

64
00:02:29,629 --> 00:02:32,129
this much rain in that short a time

65
00:02:32,885 --> 00:02:35,064
and it causing so much trouble.

66
00:02:35,525 --> 00:02:36,025
A

67
00:02:36,485 --> 00:02:38,824
while back, we had our basement redone,

68
00:02:39,764 --> 00:02:42,504
you know, Basement Systems of Michigan.

69
00:02:42,885 --> 00:02:45,764
No. It was Ayers Basement Systems. Anyway, they

70
00:02:45,764 --> 00:02:48,020
came in and broke the floor up, put

71
00:02:48,020 --> 00:02:50,520
in drains, put in a double sump pump,

72
00:02:51,139 --> 00:02:52,599
and all that and

73
00:02:52,900 --> 00:02:55,240
because we had pretty routine flooding.

74
00:02:56,020 --> 00:02:57,300
And, anyway, they,

75
00:02:58,260 --> 00:03:00,099
they cleaned that up, and it was bone

76
00:03:00,099 --> 00:03:02,294
dry in the basement until yesterday.

77
00:03:03,574 --> 00:03:04,074
And,

78
00:03:04,615 --> 00:03:06,775
our sump pumps, both of them have been

79
00:03:06,775 --> 00:03:08,634
running pretty much constantly

80
00:03:09,495 --> 00:03:09,995
for

81
00:03:10,614 --> 00:03:12,155
a couple of days, so

82
00:03:12,935 --> 00:03:14,854
they couldn't keep up. So we got a

83
00:03:14,854 --> 00:03:16,854
little bit of water on the floor, nothing

84
00:03:16,854 --> 00:03:19,759
crazy, but that has been bone dry since

85
00:03:19,759 --> 00:03:20,000
they,

86
00:03:21,120 --> 00:03:22,979
they put the basement back together.

87
00:03:23,919 --> 00:03:24,159
So,

88
00:03:25,599 --> 00:03:27,439
well, it is is what it is, I

89
00:03:27,439 --> 00:03:27,939
guess.

90
00:03:29,039 --> 00:03:30,799
So with that, let's look at the weather.

91
00:03:30,799 --> 00:03:33,620
Slight chance of showers before 11AM,

92
00:03:34,055 --> 00:03:36,694
then a chance of showers after 2PM. Patchy

93
00:03:36,694 --> 00:03:38,474
fog before 11AM.

94
00:03:38,534 --> 00:03:41,655
Otherwise, mostly cloudy with a high near 58.

95
00:03:41,655 --> 00:03:44,294
Calm wind becoming north around five miles per

96
00:03:44,294 --> 00:03:46,155
hour this afternoon. Chance precipitation

97
00:03:46,455 --> 00:03:47,514
is 30%.

98
00:03:48,080 --> 00:03:50,340
Tonight, chance of showers and thunderstorms,

99
00:03:50,719 --> 00:03:52,099
patchy fog. Otherwise,

100
00:03:52,400 --> 00:03:53,299
mostly cloudy

101
00:03:53,680 --> 00:03:55,620
with a low around 47.

102
00:03:55,680 --> 00:03:59,299
Calm winds and, and a chance of precipitation

103
00:03:59,919 --> 00:04:00,900
of 50%.

104
00:04:01,555 --> 00:04:03,235
On Thursday. 50%

105
00:04:03,235 --> 00:04:04,294
chance of showers,

106
00:04:04,915 --> 00:04:07,014
patchy fog before 1PM.

107
00:04:07,074 --> 00:04:10,294
Otherwise, mostly cloudy with a high near 57.

108
00:04:10,355 --> 00:04:11,655
Calm wind around,

109
00:04:12,835 --> 00:04:14,455
five miles per hour.

110
00:04:16,060 --> 00:04:17,920
So yeah. And it looks

111
00:04:19,740 --> 00:04:22,319
like Friday might be sunny, but then

112
00:04:23,420 --> 00:04:24,480
Saturday, Sunday

113
00:04:26,220 --> 00:04:27,759
oh, jeez. And Sunday,

114
00:04:28,105 --> 00:04:30,125
chance of snow showers.

115
00:04:30,425 --> 00:04:31,404
Oh my gosh.

116
00:04:32,185 --> 00:04:34,205
Will this weather, never end?

117
00:04:34,665 --> 00:04:37,705
Anyway, happy tax day. Be careful out there

118
00:04:37,705 --> 00:04:39,865
if you're driving around, and I will catch

119
00:04:39,865 --> 00:04:40,605
you tomorrow.
